Friends Seeking Donations to Fund New Circulation Desk

The Upton Town Library is in the final stages of planning a project to improve the interior of the library. The project will replace the library carpet, paint our walls, update our floor plan and repair a damp basement that is causing mold growth in the building.

This project is funded by an appropriation at Town Meeting approved by the voters of Upton. We appreciate their support for these badly needed updates to our library space. Our long-term goal is to build an adequate library facility for the community, but in the meantime, these minor improvements will keep the library open and functioning.

Unfortunately, the approved funds for the project don't cover the cost of a replacement circulation desk. The current circulation desk is more than 40 years old and is falling apart, and it is also built into the floor of the library and can't be reused after the library repairs are completed.  The Friends of the Upton Town Library are looking for donations to purchase materials and for a local carpenter to build a new desk that will fit our new floor plan.

If you know any local craftsmen that might be interested in the project, please ask them to contact Matthew Bachtold, Library Director, at 508-529-6272. If you would like to make a donation, you can use the PayPal link to the right.

In order to complete the repairs, the library will be closed for 4 weeks during the winter. Exact dates have not yet been determined, but we are aiming for February. Watch the library website and postings for details about what services will be available during the repairs.
